From the backcover: ”For kind, curious, philosophically minded Isabel Dalhousie, editor of the Review of Applied Ethics, getting through life with a clear conscience requires careful thought. And with the arrival of baby Charlie, not to mention the passionate relationship with his father Jamie, fourteen years her junior, Isabel enters deeper and rougher waters.
Late motherhood is not the only challenge facing Isabel. There is her furiously disapproving niece Cat, and an attempted takeover of her beloved Review by the machiavellian Professor Dove. All the while, Isabel finds herself drawn into the story of a painter’s mysterious death off the island of Jura.”
I’ve only read Mma Ramotswe-series from this Scottish author before, but run into this book in a 2nd-hand-shop and took it with me. The story happens in Edinburgh and visiting that beautiful city just last summer and totally falling in love with it, I enjoyed reading this book. It felt almost like I was there again even though I didn’t recognise all the locations of course, but quite many anyway. And the story itself was quite good also even though it took a while to get in the ”flow”. But the humour that is characteristic for Mma Ramotswe could also be found in this book and had to laugh aloud in some places. Quite a lovely read at least for such a Scotland-fan as me :) who would like to go there many, many times to come.
