From Samantha Silva, the author of Mr. Dickens and His Carol, a beautiful, engrossing novel based on the life of proto-feminist icon Mary Wollstonecraft, narrated to her newborn daughter, Mary Shelley …
This was the July book of my first Book Grocer Book Club box last year. It is a well-written historical novel about Mary Wollstonecraft, a truly remarkable woman I knew nothing about. It is a feminist novel at several levels, from the story of the main character to the problems of childbirth women encountered not that long ago. Quite a tough read in parts but it truly touched me.

A breathtaking read. Prose that flowed seamlessly, wonderfully detailed observations. Recommended reading.
