Bought this in the National Trust second hand bookshop at Goddards in York today.

I was, well, I still am, reading Chernobyl Prayer and finding it rather grim so I was looking for something completely different as a break and picked up this. A man is showered by radioactive dust that shrinks him and he ends up being hunted by spiders. Worst nightmare.

That's effectively it. It's set in the 1950s America, so it's a bit of a knock to our six foot tall hero and his ego when he starts shrinking. Suddenly not the big manly man, then he's smaller than his wife, his daughter, gets bullied and attacked by kids, then the cat... perhaps this is a reflection on so called masculinity. Or maybe it's just a story about a shrinking man. A large percentage of it is about him being under an inch high, trapped living in the cellar unknown by his family and being chased by a spider. Extreme borrowers!!! But the detail did drag a bit at times about how he got himself about the furniture. But interesting premise for a story.

I am going to take three books at the community swapping bookshelf at the shopping centre that I discovered last week.
