The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time
6 journalers for this copy...
This is a fantastic 'must-read' book. If you look at the journal entry I made after I read the copy on GlasgowGal's bookring, you'll realise that I just *had* to go out and buy my own copy, which I will of course send out on a ring if people should be interested (and believe me, they should!).
The book revolves & evolves around a 15yr old boy called Christopher who has Aspergers, which is a type of Autism. It is so well written that it lets you know a bit about the condition, and the lives of people who live with that (and by that I mean Christopher's family too) and the hardships and joys they encounter. At the same time it tells a story in it's own right, and it all fits beautifully into place.
Apparantly Mark Haddon has written 15 books for Children, which I will be checking out if I see them. I can't say this wouldn't work as a children's book, but it didn't cross my mind while I was reading it, that it *was* a children's book. Maybe that too is testament to how well it's written?

Journal Entry 8 by psychjo from Portsmouth, Hampshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, December 15, 2004
Sent off to 16stepper today.
The Curious Incident has arrived in Gilbert. I have several rings in front of it, but am taking a week off and hoping to do a lot of reading.
I have to apologize! I finished reading this about a month ago on a business trip, and thought I'd already journaled it and PM'd the next person. I'm embarassed to find that I did no such thing.
This is a wonderful book, narrated with such innocence. My nephew is a very high functioning person with autism, and so this was especially interesting to me.
The overall message that I got from this book is that there is hope, even in the most overwhelming circumstances. I was very inspired by the narrator's courage and the depth of his dedication to living his truth. I was also touched by the way others interacted with him. Will PM Caligula03 to verify her mailing addy.

RELEASE NOTES:
Finally sending off to Caligula03.
Finally sending off to Caligula03.
Book has arrived. I will read it as soon as I can.
I enjoyed the book and the many mathematical asides. I often had my husband reading over my shoulder because he enjoyed all the diagrams and math bits too. I'll probably have to get a copy of this book for him. I think that people who have enjoyed the Georgia Nicholson series (Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging, et al) will enjoy this book too.
Having thought about what to write for this review over night I've come to the conclusion that Christopher got the short end of the stick with his parents. I don't want to say to much to give anything away but the motives of both his parents and their tempers make them no different than Christopher, except that they haven't been "diagnosed" with anything disorder. Since there are so many people remaining after me on this rings, I'll keep the rest of my thoughts to myself lest I give away the entire plot.

Roadrunner asked to be skipped. Trying again with debnance. Debnance also asked to be skipped. Trying now with Leg.
I'm getting rather frustrated. So far NO ONE wants this book on the list. I've gone all the way through Lennonchick78.

At last I have an address. The book is off to bluenoser.
Thanks to all involved in getting this book back on track and finally in my mailbox. It just arrived about an hour ago. It has had such good reviews, I'm really excited to finally get a chance to read it.
What an interesting and well written book. I won't repeat the former readers' comments as I agree with most of them. I am now trying to find out if any of the former list of participants would like this book - the ones with a question mark next to their names. It's ready to pass on as soon as I find one.
I'm taking this book over to the UK in a few days, to mail back to Spike1972 in Wales. Thansk to Psychjo and Spike for starting and continuing this bookring.
Thanks for the safe return of my book and the fantastic postcard featuring Humpback Whales, I'll put it the other postcards I've liked, I've kept from various bookcrossers ;o)
I've marked this as PC, but if anyone else would like to read this, then please do let me know ;o)

I've finally got my act together and I'm hoping to post this to Australia today to Hollistic, who has shown unbelievable patiance with me, as I first promised her this book way before Christmas :-s
This is just a quick JE on behalf of Hollistic to say the book has arrived.
