" The twenty-sixth book in the hugely popular Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus series from New York Times bestselling author Faye Kellerman
A disappearance...
When Bertram Lanz, a disabled man, goes missing from a local diner, detective Peter Decker is put on the case. He soon realizes there is more to the disappearance than meets the eye when he discovers Lanz's nurse is missing too, and blood is found in her house.
A body...
Then, while combing the woods, searchers discover the remains of a young man who vanished during a camping trip years ago.
A detective facing his toughest case yet...
Juggling a hot case and a cold case, Decker races to find justice for the families. But as the answers become ever more elusive, he is forced to question if the woods will ever give up their dark secrets . . . and if these intertwining cases will ever be solved. "

First of all I have to admit that I don't read this kind of book very often, because I usually find them very formulaic and full of hyperboles. This book is no exception and I didn't had high expectations, but there are some elements that irked me no end.
I thought the dialogues completely artificial and ridiculous and the characters very cliche and shallow. Maybe if one follows the series and has warmed up to them on previous books will feel differently, but there is a lots of farfetched, ridiculous soap opera drama, half of the time I couldn't get the references to stuff that has to do with previous books, while there is a thread there that is left hanging lose by the end of the book.
There are two other major plot lines in the book that don't get resolved properly either. I found the theories the detectives developed very weird and off and the course of action completely unconvincing as far as police procedures or common sense (should) go. Lots of boring going arounds and beating the bush and lots of repetition, irrelevant scenes and useless information in this book.
I guess it kind of kept my mild interest to read it till end, but the end was a disappointment and while the book was OK-ish to pass the time, I don't think I will rush to read anything else by this author.
All that said, different strokes for different folks, a man's treasure is another man's trash etc etc. I hope future readers will enjoy this more than me!
