". . . The "wild" of the title being both a place and a reference to the savage ungovernability of a divided family. Tess, the nine-year-old from whose point of view we see nearly all the action, has come with her older brother Jake and mother Francine to The Wild, a rambling country house presided over by the smarmy William. He has three young daughters of his own, and loses no time in stamping his authority on the entire brood." (The Guardian).
The author analyses emotional distress, building up an atmosphere of claustrophobia and tension. I enjoyed this novel and read it twice.
