Great find on our first visit to 2nd Chance Books in Lubbock, Texas. Looking forward to reading my first Graham Greene novel. This one is on the 1001 Boxall’s Books You Must Read Before You Die List.
I must add I am disappointed to find highlights and markings in this copy. Lesson learned: examine used books carefully before buying.

Reminds me a bit of Willa Cather’s “Death Comes to the Archbishop”. It was a slow read for me, a slow journey. I’m glad I read it and learned more about the history of Mexico and religion, specifically persecution of the Catholic Church during the 1920s. I appreciate the author’s plain writing.
