I was taken aback by Xinran's "The Good Women of China", which is a rich collection of fascinating, heartbreaking and probably barely known accounts of chinese women's lives.
The story that forms "Sky Burial" however is so vast, that it simply cannot be told as part of a collection. It requires a book all by itself. It is the most incredible , awe-inspiring, as well as heartbreaking tale of a Chinese woman's quest to find her husband, who disappeared in Tibet in the havoc of the Chinese invasion. The resulting journey, spanning several decades, is beyond a short description. However, this much can be said: reading this and other accounts from that vast region, you cannot help but wonder, how many invaluables tales lie hidden there, that will never get told.
This is the story of a love so strong, that probably only few people are capable and fortunate enough to experience.
