Es ist auf Englisch und handelt von einem Camp für straffällig gewordene Jugendliche, die dort unter harten Bedingungen jeden Tag ein Loch in einem ausgetrockneten See graben müssen. Keiner weiß warum, bis Stanley (der tragische Held dieser Geschichte) hinter das Geheimnis kommt und mit Hilfe seines einzigen Freundes für Gerechtigkeit sorgt.
(Tut mir leid, dass diese Zusammenfassung ziemlich nichtssagend ist, aber ich finde es etwas schwer zu beschreiben und will auch nicht alles verraten für den Fall, dass es mal jemand lesen möchte.)

Es ist nicht das Beste was ich gelesen hab, ich bin auch noch nicht ganz durch, aber was soll man von einer Schullektüre erwarten?

Das Buch habe ich zwar immer noch nicht ganz gelesen, aber das muss ich jetzt (zumindest für die Schule) auch nicht mehr. Sollte ich jemals das komplette Buch lesen, werde ich diesen Eintrag nochmal verändern und vielleicht eine neue Bewertung abgeben. Es ist nämlich nicht sehr schlecht, andererseits jedoch nicht wirklich toll. Es könnte natürlich sein, dass ich dieses Buch eher negativ betrachte weil ich es im Unterricht lesen musste und es mir keinen Spaß gemacht hat.
Falls jemand daran interessiert ist, soll er/sie sich bei mir melden.

Da Ben-Nevis mich fragte ob ich ihm dieses Buch geben könnte, bringe ich es ihm zum Meet Up mit und leih es ihm aus.

A fascinating small book, an entertaining, gripping read. The first book I have read in a single day for quite a long time. At first I thought I was one of these stories about bad boys turned into good boys by hard work, military education and drill, but fortunately the story is much better.
The story is told on different time levels and seems to be a bit confusing and strange at times, but what I really like is that in the end everything is very conclusive and what ever looks illogic at first sight is explained. But it is not only logic there is enough fantasy to make it a good story.

The campers are forbidden to lie in the hammock. It belongs to the warden. The warden owns the shade. Out on the lake, rattlesnakes and scorpions find shade under rocks and in the holes dug by campers.
Here’s a food rule to remember about rattlesnakes and scorpions: If you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you.

Being bitten by a scorpion or even a rattlesnake is not the worst thing that can happen to you. You won’t die.

Sometimes a camper will try to be bitten by a scorpion, or even a small rattlesnake. Then he will get to spend a day or two recovering in his tent, instead of having to dig a hole out on the lake.
But you don’t want to be bitten by a yellow-spotted lizard. That’s the worst thing that can happen to you. You will die a slow and painful death.
