I got this softcover at Newbury Books. It's a very unusual M/M love story in which the main characters are a white snake and... a sparrow. They can each take (mostly) human form at times, but the fact that snakes prey on small birds makes their relationship a bit fraught.
The were-critter aspect leads to some interesting and potentially educational (!) scenes in which they explore each other's genitalia. Despite their human forms, the snake has a two-pronged organ and the sparrow has... a cloaca. How our heroes deal with this gets a bit surprising (hint: magic is involved) but while it's quite fascinating it does make some scenes more explicit than I'd have expected.
