Hmm, is this my first copy of this of OneCity book (c) 2005 registered with BookCrossing or has by some weird turn of events the One City charity released two books with similar covers, surely not! I so a wee mystery right there? I best check this. I have a project idea (A&T Book Advent 2023) for this so shall immediately register it as RESERVED.

Blurb:
SCOTLAND'S CAPITAL CITY enjoys immense international prestige for its cultural and artistic excellence, but it is also a city of stark contrasts. Edinburgh is the inspiration for this humorous and imaginative short story collection from three of its contemporary writers.

ALEXANDER McCALL SMITH, IAN RANKIN, and IRVINE WELSH offer radically different takes on Edinburgh life: a homesick biologist from Delhi comes to a startling conclusion; two Homeless World Cup players become entangled in a magical world of illusion; and tiger-related mayhem breaks out in Murrayfield. J. K. ROWLING introduces these intriguing perspectives with a thoughtful account of her move to Edinburgh and her life there.

All proceeds from the book will go to the OncCity Trust, which campaigns for social justice in Edinburgh.

I am proud to live here, and proud that my home city is committed to becoming more inclusive place. OneCityTrust seeks to unify I cannot thank of a better goal, for Edinburgh, Scotland or the world. J. K. ROWLING

Hmm, not read this yet by the looks of it, as I have no notes to leave according to a total lack of them in post-it form within the book! (Hmm, a reminder that I have various record keeping hic-ups to tackle...) Anyhow, I've put a hold on the inclusion of this in my festive 2023 project idea (A&T Book Advent) which this was REGISTERED and RESERVED for. I am not including this as its not read and ready to travel. New plan, use for next similar BookCrossing project in 2024?

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Well, I'd ear-marked this for Flutterbies9 last year, 2023, and have eventually posted it to Somerset. I'm making notes while visiting Somerset and can see I'll be releasing this unread as there is no time to read it, January 2025. However, looking back I realise in my enthusiastic haste to pass on copy two, during a transatlantic journey, I had also released it as UNREAD! Reasonable enough at that time as I did have this copy on hand to read. Fair enough! Just wish I had remembered I hadn't read it when I packed it to post it to Somerset. Bah humbug!

So I'll get a third copy, possibly from the library and read it so I can leave reading thoughts in the journal entries for both this, my first copy, and also the second copy.

Eventually then, I've passed this onto Flutterbies9 (and partner, for the possibly of two readers rather than one) in celebration of Christmas 2024 and as part of a late delivery of an 'Advent Calendar of Books'!

● RELEASE NOTES:
DEAR Flutterbies9:
OK so you know all these BookCrossing things to do so I'll cut to this...

Take me travelling, read me or not, and please leave a note about my whereabouts on the website - anonymously, if you prefer.

Then, please release me again so I can travel on, greetings from BookCrosser rainbow3.

Received from rainbow3 whilst she was here on a visit. Apologies for the late registering of this (and others) from the Advent Calendar of books for the festive season 2024.

Rainbow3 and I exchanged copies of this book so that she had it to read and I would pass it on. There is a copy of my notes from the last review below.

The book is a series of short stories from several well known authors all focussed on the city of Edinburgh. The authors are Alexander McCall Smith, Ian Rankin and Irvine Welsh with a short introduction from JK Rowling.

I enjoyed the differing writing style of each author and the stories themselves were all so different in character. The gentle, humorous and very human story from Alexander McCall Smith (The Unfortunate Fate of Kitty Da Silva) was typical of his stories and did make me smile. Ian Rankin's Showtime had a sort of quiet desperation to it that was worryingly sinister but never turned nasty (thankfully) but perhaps that was also partly influenced by the fact that I'm not keen on magic as a subject. Irvine Welsh's tale of Murrayfield was a contrast with its black humour showcased in this well written short story. So, all in all, a very worthwhile set of short but good tales which I thoroughly enjoyed.

There is a plan for this book to be passed on.
