I got this 1963 hardcover (missing its dust jacket) at a local Savers thrift shop. It's Silverstein's first children's book, "a whimsical tale of self-discovery and marshmallows." A young lion, having devoured a hunter and taken his rifle, develops an aptitude for marksmanship - and gets the attention of a circus man, who wants to feature the lion (now dubbed Lafcadio) in his performances. But what will Lafcadio do when he returns to his African home and finds his own kind on the other side of his rifle-sights?

I left this book in the Little Free Library; hope someone enjoys it! (Had to struggle to open the door, as last night's heavy rains made the door-latch swell.)
