amazing story of a southern Appalachian boy's journey of challenges and adventures to maturity. Inspired by Charles Dickens David Copperfield (tho not a prerequisite read!)

Very well-written saga of a young boy's very difficult path to adulthood, through being a foster child, abused in multiple ways, drug-addicted, subjected to the loss of both parents and many contemporaries. Depressing story, even though the reader is ultimately left with some hope that the guy will have some goodness in his life.
