Picked this up second hand. It's a retelling of the story of the murder of David Rizzio in Holyrood Palace.

I had mixed feelings about this one. You really get a sense of the brutality of the murder of Rizzio and the vulnerability of Mary Queen of Scots. Talk about a dysfunctional marriage!

Absolutely brilliant read ! If there ever was a fascinating crime story, this surely is it. Denise Mina totally packed a punch in just 113 pages !

This book was quite interesting from a historical point of view although accuracy should be treated with caution. Not because Denise Mina has made it all up but because the reasons for the murder were murky even at the time and different theories have been put forward ever since. However it is well written, giving a tense and vivid account of the event while bringing to life characters who are usually discussed in a more factual one-dimensional way.

Though I love historical facts and accuracy, this little book of imagined details was simply perfect! The amount of feelings that came alive on the pages, the little quirky jigs that made the events somehow even more plausible..oh if everyone could write like Mina! I could only wish for more pages on the story!
