The cover text reads:

R.U.R., or Rossum's Universal Robots, is regarded as the most important play in the history of SF. It introduced the word "robot" and gave the genre one of its most enduring tropes.

Written against the background of the rise of Nazism, War with the Newts concerns the discovery of a sea-dwelling race, which is enslaved and exploited by mankind. In time they rebel, laying siege to the strongholds of their former masters in a global war for supremacy.

The latter is #1084 [sic] on the https://www.listchallenges.com/1001-books-you-must-read-2018 list.

Two different views on the dystopia of rampant capitalism. In the rather short Rossum's Universal Robots, an inventor discovers how to make a protoplasm from which he can construct unfeeling robots and sell them to the world. In War with the Newts an old sea-captain find the last colony of pre-historic amphibians clinging onto existence near a remote island, and transports them all over the world to help him harvest pearls. But the end result is similar: mankind exploits for short term profit without considering the consequences. The first story is short and whimsical, and the second is a bit heavier on the politics.

These were interesting reads, but not my cup of tea because I don't do satire :-(
