Released 1 yr ago (8/5/2023 UTC) at Winner of Sweepstakes, A Bookcrossing member -- Controlled Releases

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

A great, compact collection of stories by Scots writers on the theme of FUTURE, and in 2020 it was certainly uncertain!
Fun note: a copy of this book is in a time capsule at the National Library of Scotland, which will be opened in 2030.
I find speed-reading helps whenever I encounter Scottish brogue ;) and incidentally, my favorite in this book was a verse from the poem 'Now... If I Had a Crystal Ball':
So, I'll listen tae some wise old words
That ma Granny used tae tell me
An' there'll be nae need fir a crystal ball, cos
Whit's afore ye'll nae gae past ye!

This will be part of a small package off to the winner of the GOLDEN SPURTLE / SCOTTISH SWEEPS!!

**** Also charity shops may well discard books that have been labelled in any way and they mostly chose only the books in the very best condition to place on their shelves and discard the rest-so another bad release option. ****

I liked reading this little book but didn't enjoyed it so much as other collections published by Scottish Book Trust. I admit that poetry usually goes over my head and that the Scottish dialect of some stories was a bit difficult to me, but otherwise the writing was mostly ok. Most contributions come from random people anyway.

While I found some stories interesting or touching, I felt that the book lacked a central theme, no matter what the Scottish Book Trust claims. Most stories take the "Future" concept too vaguely, and I found most of them indifferent and duller than on other collections published through this organisation. I found the idea for this project more interesting than the execution of the project its self.

Still a decent little book to pass the time.

Thanks once again everyone for sharing!

Journal Entry 9 by wingDelphi_Readerwing at Naxos - Νάξος, Cyclades Greece on Monday, September 9, 2024
"Future" got itchy feet again, so it came with me on Naxos Island, Cyclades.

Released this morning in the abandoned building above the amazing Alyko beach!

Good Luck little book and Don't forget to write your news from time to time!
