I got this softcover, the first in the author's "County Cork" mystery series, at the annual book-sale at the Nashua Public Library. (The "acknowledgments" section includes some personal-memoir information about the inspiration for the series.)

It features Maura Donovan, whose late grandmother wanted her to visit the small Irish village where her grandmother was born. She finds unexpected connections with many of the people who knew her grandmother - and (surprise!) also winds up investigating a murder or two: a body's been found in the bog, and turns out to be from nearly a hundred years ago (so not one of the intriguing ancient bog-bodies, but still a surprise). And that death may be related to a much more recent killing...

The setting's quite lovely (if not always comfortable!), but I found the main character a bit prickly and judgmental. (Was also, I admit, a wee bit disappointed that the bog body wasn't ancient; I find those utterly fascinating!)

I plan to leave this book, bagged against the elements, at the Ponemah Bog trailhead; hope someone enjoys it!

I found this book after hiking Ponemah Bog with my three year old and seven month old. I am excited to read it! I love mysteries. I will update after I read this book.
