The Fitzpatrick translation of the classic work from a Nationalist viewpoint. Wu had incredible access to Chinse archival and documentary sources (many now lost) over the decade it took him to write this. He was able to interview many key individuals who were present, and somehow was able access so many because he spoke German, French and English in addition to the most important Chinese dialects. It is perhaps only the absence of Japanese accounts that makes the work less than complete. Mentioned in the first episode of Season 9 of Perry Mason.
