A Man Called Ove

7 journalers for this copy...

I read this in February (my thoughts are journaled on this copy). I picked up this issue to send on to my Secret Santa.

Thank you Secret Santa for the wishlist book! I am looking forward to reading this.

I laughed, I cried, and I now have a soft spot in my heart for a cantankerous old man named Ove.
Fredrik Backman does an excellent job of taking a curmudgeon and making him a misunderstood, grieving, old man with whom you cannot help but to feel some of his pain. When he gets new neighbors who are not shy about inserting themselves into his life, Ove has a reason to live and for the first time in his life, has an extended family who love and accept him.

Releasing in the Person, Place & Thing bookspiral (Round One - Person)

Notes from my copy: Delightful and different. Listened via audio, to better hear the pronunciations of the names. Ove is a loner curmudgeon, determined to do away with himself after his wife dies. But he keeps getting thwarted by the neighbors, who arrive at inopportune times, backing over his mailbox when the sign clearly says no driving by the houses, falling off the borrowed ladder, and then leaving Ove to drive the pregnant wife and kids to the hospital, and leaving him in charge of the stray, abandoned cat. Lovely how the neighbors got under his skin, without him really even knowing it, just like his late wife did.

Leaving in the bookring

I’ve read this before and here is my original review.
Ove is may favorite literary curmudgeon. This book is beautiful and the writing is somber and comical. A very enjoyable sentimental book and I absolutely recommend it.
I read this for PopSugar's 2017 reading challenge prompt: A book with a title that's a character's name.

Releasing back into the Person, Place & Thing Bookspiral Round #3. (Person)

I already read this book, so it will stay in the ring.

And Ove has come (briefly) home. I'm going to send this on to the next reader since this copy started here.

Thank you so much, LaveggioCoffee, for the box of books to release. I may read some of them first, but eventually they will all be released in my "lucky" release location, and hope that they too will be caught and journaled.
This book has had a nice journey with several BookCrossers already. I have read and enjoyed this book a while back. I'm not sure if I'll re-read this copy or just release it at an appropriate time.
