I read this years ago, and here are my thought from then -
“I read this over a 2 day period. An interesting perspective on death and the afterlife. The grissly death of Susie Salmon is dealt with well by the author. Alice Sebold showed the different ways the family and friends dealt with Susie's death. It is a story about relationships and the healing of the family. Susie's heaven is a little strange - but I guess we cannot dispute it until we get there!
Update : just read a little of Alice Sebold's background -
"she survived a violent, devastating rape in her freshman year at Syracuse University. According to the police, the woman before her had not been so "lucky": She was murdered and dismembered. A freshman at Syracuse University, she felt like her life was over. Part of the aftermath of Sebold's traumatic rape in college was a long period of self-abuse, including heroin addiction. But in 1999, she published a memoir about the brutal 1981 assault, titled Lucky. "
