Welcome to BookCrossing!
Thank you for picking up this book. If you’re new to BookCrossing and find this book and this site (www.bookcrossing.com), please make a journal entry to let me know that this book has found a good home with you. You may choose to remain anonymous or to join.
I hope you'll join BookCrossing (doesn't cost anything to join!) and if you do, please consider using me, earthcaroleanne, as your referring member. When you’ve finished reading this book and are ready to send it on its way again, make a journal entry if you are giving or sending this book to a known person, or a release note if you are leaving it “in the wild” again for anyone to catch. Then watch its journey. You’ll be alerted by e mail each time someone makes another journal entry. And it’s confidential (you are known only by your screen name and no one is ever given your e-mail address), free, and spam-free.
Enjoy the site, the book and hopefully the BookCrossing community. If you’re already a BookCrossing member, thank you for picking up this book.
Happy BookCrossings!

A parent's worst feat is realised when seven-year-old Libby Hallforth goes missing at a funfair. Her mother says she only took her eye off Libby for a second and the girl's father has a quick temper. But what might have been happening behind closed doors? Months later, after the trail for Libby has gone cold, DI Jake Porter and DS Nick Styles find human remains, but that's just the tip of gruesome iceberg. Everyone is a suspect, nobody can be trusted. The changes of getting justice for Libby are fading fast, along with Porter's changes of stopping a killer before they strike again.
This is good police procedural with several twists as well as some surprises. I thought it was a bit slow to start with but as the action hots up it hits its stride and becomes quite compulsive. I enjoyed the misdirection which sends you down the false assumption route until the author turns the tables. It’s clever and I really like the way he manipulated me. I also liked his resolution which I thought offered a little bit more.

Journal Entry 5 by greenbadger at St Albans, Hertfordshire United Kingdom on Sunday, February 5, 2023
The third book in the Porter and Styles series sees the two detectives looking for a young girl who has gone missing, but with her father an unpleasant character and her older brother having already moved out, it's not clear whether she was snatched or has run away. Months later and any hope of finding Libby alive is fading, when there is a possible sighting and then human remains are found. Suspenseful, with a good twisty plot, and showing the difficult balance between the demands of the job and family life. Really enjoyed this and with the hint dropped at the end I can't wait to read the next one!

Now safely in central France, so quick delivery here! (and this despite recurring strikes here in France). Thanks so much for the BC labels, they are so much spiffier than my more or less home-made ones.
I look forward to getting to this soonish, but have a few other books in line before it.
Thanks for making these available, and thanks for sending.

And then there were three, so this bookcrossing bookring has turned into a spiral.
My husband read this before me and when I first checked in with him he was not (yet) enthusiastic.. so I was a little slow to pick it up. Then I did yesterday and had to make myself stop reading at an unconfessably late hour of the night. It turns out it was just the beginning my husband was less than keen on.
Anyway, I do sometimes chafe at Porter's lone ranger style (going alone into the den of the bad guy, for example), but I was caught up in the story and let myself be led through all the twists and turns without a protest. I had guessed a few things, but not the ending.
A good read, thanks so much for making it available. I'll try to get it out to Icila before going away for a few weeks, but if I miss the post office, it will be when I get back.
I look forward to reading the next!

I got this to the post office just before it closed for the weekend - and before going away for a few weeks, so very glad to have made it.
Thanks so much for making this book available - it seems to me there was a hint there might be more in the series? (if so, please sign me up).
Enjoy, Icila!
