A good popular history book, very readable, it explains the real history of the Birmingham criminal gangs and how the facts compare with the TV series The Peaky Blinders. It doesn't spend too many words on analysing the TV series, it's mainly the story of the rise and fall and the real chronology of Birmingham's criminal gangs, and what the law did to restrict the outlets for working class people to get involved in gambling (and whether it worked) and what happened in the real turf war between gangs who wanted to control betting on race courses. It's ll the more interesting for being written by Carl Chinn, who is Birmingham's most prominent local historian and is himself a descendant of one of the Birmingham gangsters.
