Thank you very much for this wishlist book! I have previously enjoyed Wildwood by this author and as you know I love this type of book. Thank you also for the very funny Roman Empire postcard, you have really made me laugh! :)

Put together posthumously from Deakin's diary entries over six years, this is a beautiful record of a life in the countryside. Deakin's love of nature and his beautiful descriptions of trees and wildlife are a joy to read, although there are also notes of despair at the way his neighbours treat the common, shoot his friend the pheasant and chase away woodpeckers and housemartins from their houses. Absolutely loved this, especially the re-enactment of Rogue Male which I read for GCSE English many years ago.

Sent to ellamiss from Alphabet VBB round 30.

The book arrived today, and it ghosted its way through customs. No costs. Three cheers for that! Wohoo!
Thank you ! I'm looking forward to reading it.
Thank you ! I'm looking forward to reading it.

I first heard of Roger Deakin through Robert Macfarlane's books, and I agree with Yogiberri that it's kind of cool to hear from some of their meetings and outings from Deakin's perspective.
I read a few journal entries every evening and, apart from the parts where he's particularily scathing about how humans fuck up the world, which I am in totally agreement with and equally upset about, it was a good way to relax and end the days in a positive way.
