I’ve only read a handful of Maeve Binchy’s novels, but they all seem to be like TV shows that have ensemble casts. This one is no different – it revolves around the employees of a heart clinic attached to a hospital in Dublin, Ireland. Each chapter focuses on a different employee, although the other characters all play supporting roles. Additionally, she brings in characters who were central to other novels, including those from Quentins and Nights of Rain and Stars, although you don’t need to have read those. Each novel stands alone. She’s good at writing warm and fuzzy, feel-good stories without being cloying and precious.
