It tells the tale of a boating expedition on the Thames, undertaken by three friends, to say nothing of the dog, Montmorency. I read this back in 1962 and enjoyed it very much. The quotation that I remember best is: “I like work; it fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours.” The other one I remember is: “It takes 3 girls to tow always; two to hold the rope, and the other one runs round and round, and giggles.”
If you google the quotes there are many, and many translated into different languages. What a wonderful classic we have all enjoyed for over a century!
‘It seems to be the rule of this world. Each person has what he doesn’t want, and other people have what he does want.” “We must not think of the things we could do with, but only of the things that we can’t do without.” “Who wants to be foretold the weather? It is bad enough when it comes, without our having the misery of knowing about it beforehand.” And many more….
