The cover picture is not the same but this is the book. A Cherokee boyhood of the 1930s.
This was maybe required reading in Swiss schools as there are some pencilled translations in the margins. The words are often written as pronounced, e.g. "reckin" instead of "reckon" and "figger" instead of "figure", so I can imagine it is quite a challenge for a non-English reader. But if you say the words out loud, you will understand.

"Gramma said when you come on something good, first thing to do is share it with whoever you can find; that way, the good spreads out where no telling it will go. Which is right."
His Cherokee grandparents teach the orphaned Little Tree the Indian way of life. A book of love, truth and belief. A book to share.
