This is a short story created for Durham Book Festival's 2022 Big Read.

This is a great wee story. I think you may be able to guess part of the route it takes but DCI Ryan always does things a little differently.

A short story in the DCI Ryan series. Ryan and Phillips are having a day off in Durham when history seems to be repeating itself, no answer from the mayor's chamber and the door locked from the inside. However the mayor is found dead and it's a good thing Ryan is on hand to help solve the mystery. Interestingly the historical mayor depicted is George Bowes, father of Mary Eleanor who we heard about at the Durham Unconvention - though LJ Ross admits that her story about his disappearance is entirely fictional. Anyway this is a nice little add-on to the Ryan series.
