Four Fires
2 journalers for this copy...

The four fires in this story are passion, religion, warfare and fire itself. While there are many more fires that drive the human spirit, love being perhaps the brightest flame of all, it is these four that have moulded us most as Australian people. The four fires give us our sense of place and, for better or for worse, shape our national character.

Yet another truly outstanding story from Aussie Bryce Courtney, he is the master of family sagas. This one gives an unforgettable insight into life in a small Australian community in the 1950s. This is a story of a rather unusual Australian family surviving by their wits, drive and endless courage.
Bryce died in 2012, so we must cherish his writing, rereading is a given. I was privileged to hear him speak in the early 2000s, unforgettable.
