I have been reading the Sookie Stackhouse vampire series by the same author and have enjoyed them very much so I was interested to see what Charlaine Harris would make of the mystery genre. The characters were interesting and the plot involving. The misdirection keeps you guessing until the end and the final resolution is one I certainly never would have expected. However I must say that I felt something missing here. It feels like this is the latest in a long series and that the reader is already supposed to know a considerable history that leaves the characters somewhat one-dimensional without it. While this book is OK on its own, I have the feeling that for those who have read the others, it would be a far more appealing experience.
