When Krissy Hancock and her best friend Vicki decide to open a bookstore café in their new town of Pine Hills, they decide to call it "Death by Coffee," after Krissy’s father’s most famous mystery novel. Little do they know how well the name fits…
On their very first day of business, Brendon Lawyer huffily takes his coffee…to the grave. It seems he had a severe allergy to peanuts…but how could there have been nuts in his coffee? And who stole his emergency allergy medication?
Fortunately, Krissy’s love of puzzles and mysteries leads her not only to Officer Paul Dalton, but also to many of her new neighbors, who aren’t terribly upset that the book is closed on Brendon. But one of them is a killer, and Krissy needs to read between the lies if she wants to save her new store—and live to see how this story ends…

I almost stopped reading this after the second page, because protagonist said: " I'd been working at a retail job I hated, selling clothes to women as big around as my leg". So, had she been happy in her job if all the customers had been slim???
EDIT: OH NO, I UNDERSTOOD THIS TOTALLY WRONG, SHE WAS UNHAPPY BECAUSE THE WOMEN WERE THINNER THAN HERSELF.... silly me!
But all in all, this was ok, even if I did wonder why suspects opened up to a person they didn't know beforehand, or didn't even seem to like her??? So the plot was kind of light, but I suppose I could read more of these anyway.

Greetings from Secret Santa!
Thank you, Santa. I know you are rather old and busy at this time of the year, so you didn't spot the other copy of this book I already have. I have been planning to read it sometime soon and send it to Chania, great minds work alike!
No need to worry, I think I know which little bookcrosser might find this in her sock...
Thank you also for the other books and lovely gifts. See you next year!

Thank you for the book, which begins a new series for me! Thank you also for the journal Opaskoiran Joulu 2022, on the pages of which I found many persons I met or knew on my working days. Thanks also for the map of Venice and the postcard of Sid´s Cafe in Yorkshire. It was nice to see you!
I hope your journey went well. Happy New Year!

I am now on page 56 and I have really got enough of that Misfit. If it were my cat, I would take it to the vet and come home without it. And be happy.
The book is in my hands now! Seems easy enough for a "snack" book . And the cat on the book cover is just adorable:)
Well, I managed to finish this but this kind of literature is really not my cup of tea.
Too tame and childish.

At Helmet Reading Challenge 2023 number 44 is fine for me and this book:
"A book in a genre, or literature type, that you do not usually read".

Despite the rain that has continued all day we drove to Teuro to the village's Saturday Café as we had missed all the other Saturdays this summer. Today they had there delicious layer cake and buns and the prices are still low: one coffee, one tea and two quite big slices of cake cost only 6 euros. There was a man playing accordion so Saturday's coffee moment was pretty much perfect (at that time it wasn't pouring rain, just drizzling, and there are garden marquees) :)
Their cake was really good but I must say I liked even more the strawberry layer cake we had yesterday ;) After the guests had left I packed a slice aside and then we finished off the rest of the cake :D This morning on the way to Teuro we took that cake slice to our neighbour but he was probably still asleep so we left the cake box on the veranda. We had just sat down with our drinks and cakes in Teuro when he called to thank, we had been the first suspects he said :D
Since it rained we decided to drive another 35 kilometres and fetch the mail too, as it was impossible to do any work outdoors anyway. And there among newspapers and postcards was this book from my wishlist (since 2018)! What a surprise! Thank you also for the lovely Virkkukoukkunen postcard! And of course thanks also to taavina for hinting that I might like to have the book :)
PS. Duras' The Lover is hiding but will come to you, eventually ;)
