I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, it was definitely a page-turner for me. Millet launches you into a story without spending too much time with introductions or explanations. I also found the biblical allusions very engaging.

However, I felt dissatisfied upon finishing the book. Maybe that’s on me. But some of the descriptions of characters (particularly the parents) were antagonistically simplistic. Maybe that was intentional, to show the narrator’s age and developmental stage.

Anyways, I did enjoy this book, even if I found the “us versus them” dichotomy a bit annoying.
