Cadillac Desert: The American West and Its Disappearing Water

This is an extremely dense book, but it's packed with great information (albeit a little dated). Few people living in the arid west realize how dire the water situation is, and how fragile life can be in the desert. Even fewer realize the massive impact farming has on everything from the aquifers to the chemical runoff far downstream. As an Arizonan, my interest lies primarily with the Colorado and other local rivers, and I would have love to read more about my local river systems, but this was a good overview of the region as a whole. Robert Glennon's "Water Follies" and "Unquenchable" are great if you're looking for further information on these issues.
Traded in at Bookman's east.
