I started this one but it honestly did not grab me. Despite its claims to the contrary, it felt a whole lot like your standard self-help book. Hopefully the next person will find it useful.

This book was part of the BCinDC holiday party first line game. I selected it based on the first line and received it later that day from Melydia and ChemProf.

I picked this book in the holiday party first line game. I really was ambivalent about reading it although Sophia thought I should. I am SOO NOT into that woo-woo stuff about manifesting what you want from life. But what the heck I needed something to read and I thought it would be quick. I did not count on my reading groove turning to cement.
I will say that this book happened along at a good time in my life. I have spent the last year figuring out my relationship with God or The Universe or Higher Power or whatever term works for you. I was raised in a very specific religious tradition and I have come to realize that I am not capable of entirely eschewing that framework. But I was able to interpret a lot of the language and concepts in this book as being a rephrasing of my understanding of the universe. Between the connection to spiritual concepts and the psychological training I have had, I actually was able to find this book helpful instead of something to roll my eyes at.
I was asked to speak in church last Sunday and the key concept of my talk is very congruous with the larger message of the book -- God loves Their children -- even you -- and you should love yourself and use that as the power to do good in the world.

Selected this book at the BCinDC meetup to give to my badass grandson. He’ll graduate college this spring and is ready to start living an awesome life as an accountant.
