The Glass Hotel

I really love Emily St. John Mandel's writing style and I enjoyed this quite a bit. I found this novel slightly less philosophical than Station Eleven and Sea of Tranquility. As a result, this book was somewhat less meaningful to me and will likely stay with me a bit less. However, I am very glad that I read it and will definitely continue to read this author!

Arrived safely today. Thank you for sending this my way.
I'm on page 35 and the hotel described sounds like somewhere I've been: Painter's Lodge. This is a captivating read about a poor but smart and creative young woman from a small town in British Columbia who becomes the companion of an older man perpetrating a Ponzi scheme who introduces her to a lifestyle of luxury before it all comes crashing down. The Glass Hotel could refer to the actual hotel where they met (where some foreshadowing graffiti was etched on a window), the fragile wealthy living situation dependent on someone else's favor, or the admonition that "people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

Arrived in the mail. Thanks for the tag and for sending me the book.
This is the first book I've read by this author. I enjoyed her writing style. The Ponzi scheme storyline was loosely based on the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme that collapsed in 2008.
