To Spoil the Sun

It's always a bit hard to read historical fictions about Native Americans, as we all know too well what sad fates await them.
This book is written by an anthropologist, "about a people who lived and died on the other side of history, just beyond our view." The story of Rain Dove, a Cherokee girl, begins when she is a child. She hears of the omens and the mysterious immortals who arrives from the sea in floating houses.
The author has worked in a lot of details in the story, about the culture and customs of the Cherokee, to make it feel authentic and true, without bogging down the story-telling.
