Every now and then I just need to plunge into a delicious bath of a historical novel, and one like this, where gossip and sullied reputations seem to be the worst the characters in the story are battered with, is just the ticket.
I really liked the way the hero and heroine learn to love each other once they unmask, and the qualities they appreciate in each other - wit and honesty, rather than insipid small talk, make it more believable.
The hero's "love at first sight" is less easy to swallow because that would seem more superficial, but it was still a delightful read. (And ok, it was her laugh, not her wig which drew him, but still).
