I really enjoyed The Kite Runner although it’s been a long time since I read it. So I was quite intrigued to pick this one up. I was unsure at the start, when it swapped from Mariams story to Lailas I couldn’t quite see how the stories were going to tie up. But they do come together and it must be one of the saddest stories, the things these two women endured together. I feel a little naïve, I knew there was a war going on of course, but I was unaware of the details, so this has opened my eyes to some of the things that went on. It’s probably a book that will stick in my mind for a while.
