I got this softcover at Barnes and Noble. It's the first in a series in which seven warriors - the "Deadly Sins" of the title - are called from their exile to help a princess reclaim a kingdom. It inspired an anime series.

This is a deceptively goofy-looking series, with its cheery-young-boy on the cover - who turns out to be one of the Seven Deadly Sins himself (wrath, in fact, which seems an odd take, as he is pretty relentlessly upbeat). He's a bit of a letch, groping the unconscious young woman whom he met when she approached his "Boar Hat" tavern in a huge suit of rusty armor, and while he does seem to be good-hearted and is definitely a powerful fighter, something's amiss.

The young woman is the princess of a kingdom that has just been taken over by the Holy Knights, who are ostensibly the Good Guys but whose actions suggest the contrary. She wants our hero's help to gather the Seven Deadly Sins to wrest back control of the kingdom and take down the Holy Knights - but as even a minor Knight is able to carve huge hunks of terrain with one sweep of his sword, and there are lots of more powerful Knights out there, this looks like a tricky fight.

Among the wacky bits: young Meliodas (aka Wrath) has a talking pig as a companion - and the pig has a mother who's immense, and on whose back the "Boar's Hat" tavern rests, with the mother pig mostly buried in the soil until they all need to move on. The minor Knight who first attacks our heroes gets wildly upset when his initial victim-count (which includes one of his own comrades!) turn out not to be dead: "How dare you guys survive! I will not change my death toll!". There's a mysterious, beautiful, and insanely powerful Knight named Gilthunder, who was able to hurl a spear for MILES and nearly take out the tavern. And when Meliodas returns the spear with interest, it only confirms the Knight's intent to hunt him down.

Good thing the Boar's Hat is mobile, as giant mama pig takes the whole lot towards a mysterious forest that the Knights are rumored to avoid. And there they meet up with the second of the Sins: an actual giant, a woman who's madly jealous when she sees Meliodas with another woman. Once that's dealt with, she and Meliodas recall the last time the Seven were together - and realize they were framed for the brutal murder of the former leader of the Knights...

[There's a TV Tropes page on the manga and anime, with some entertaining tidbits.]
