I found this slightly-battered softcover at a local thrift shop. I'd enjoyed the audiobook a while back and was pleased to have a release copy.
It's a look at the myths of Pratchett's marvelous Discworld, and could serve as a companion volume to the series. I've adored the Discworld books since first discovering them thanks to comments in the Book Talk forum on BookCrossing, and so for me this book was a way to revisit many of my favorite bits - and occasionally learn something new about a minor element that I'd overlooked.
The book compares the various beings of the Discworld with their inspirations from Earth, whether historical or from legend. The subject matter is entertaining, whether it involves quotes from the Discworld books or descriptions of lovely (and obscure) myths from our own culture - and it sounds as though Pratchett and British folklorist Simpson (who met at a book-signing over the different versions of the "Magpie" rhyme) have great chemistry.
[There's an extensive TV Tropes page on the Discworld books and the many, many adaptations and spinoffs, including some nods to this book.]
