As always, Maeve Binchy doesn't disappoint.

The basics: Helen MacMahon disappears, one night, from her home in the small Irish town of Lough Glass, leaving her daughter Kit, son Emmet and husband Martin behind. She did leave a note but Kit found it and burned it with the belief she was protecting her mother.

When the family and town believes she had drowned in the lake, Helen realizes she can never go back or have contact with her family.

But then Kit starts to receive letters from a Lena Grey in London who says she was a friend of her mothers.
