I got this softcover at a local thrift shop, for another release copy.
Most people have probably encountered some of Dahl's tales either in anthologies or via the TV episodes based on them. Old favorites such as "Lamb to the Slaughter" and "Man from the South" are here, along with "Taste" (my first Dahl story, I think) and "Royal Jelly," and many more. And there are some stories here that I had not found anywhere else, such as "The Visitor," which is a lovely Don-Juan-gets-his-comeuppance tale framed in the form of a lengthy personal diary.
Most of Dahl's stories are more than adequately chilling without making use of any supernatural elements. Here, some of the most disturbing tales are the short sections of "Claud's Dog", especially "Rummins" [this one felt Faulkner-esque to me - or is it that my favorite Faulkner reads like Dahl?].
If you like twisted tales with touches of horror and grim humor, you must read Dahl.
[There's a TV Tropes page on Dahl and his work, with some references to tales in this collection.]
