Received today in pristine condition. Oddly, I already had this on my tbr (but unregistered) as 1 of a 3 book deal from The Works, so I shall release it from tbr now. I obviously had wanted to read this one!

Thanks, poodlesister.

Well, this one never went anywhere but into my hands to read. I am so glad I did just read this too. This was a wonderful bit of fun and kept me up way past my bedtime finishing it!

Cover,
"A desperate pea leads to a fake engagement in this delightful Regency romance ...

Miss Abigail Abbott desperately needs to disappear - permanently - and the only person she trusts to help her do that is Lord Stephen Wentworth, heir to the Duke of Walden. Stephen is brilliant, charming and - when he needs to be - absolutely ruthless. So ruthless that he proposes marriage instead of 'murder' to keep Abigail safe.

Stephen was smitten the instant his sister introduced him to Abigail, a woman with the dignity and determination of a duchess and the courage of a lioness. When she accepts his courtship of convenience, he also discovers she kisses like his most intimate wish come true. For Abigail, their arrangement is a sham to escape her dangerous enemies. For Stephen, it's his one chance to share a lifetime with the lady of his dreams - if only he can convince her his love is real."

An author I will read again when I get the chance. Yes, it is modern manners dressed in Regency clothing, but the writing and the plot are a cut above most and the characters are likewise.

I have a plan for this book and although I had thought to save it, I may well change my mind on that plan! Watch this space ......

Arrived this week and inhaled like air. Seems I'm dying for diversions of a delightfully Regency direction.

Of course, in all honesty I have to point out I've never come across a Burrowes that wasn't simply wonderful. That thought lead me to check which others of Burrowes Regency novels I had read only to find I have not registered any! Greatly puzzled! Have each and everyone of my previous Burrowes book reads been library books? How peculiar I would have sworn more than a few were BookCrossing books...

How satisfying, another of Balogh's treats. Indeed, Balogh remains a cut above many other Regency authors as her characters experience, overcome and develop though various life traumas, that could easily have relevance for today's readers. Trauma's that are universal in essence so though the resolutions maybe specific to the plots the topics are not uncommon even now. Insightful and compassionate Balogh's writing offers some thought provoking points beyond what's seen on the surface. Always a joy to read.
