Oh lovely! This has been on my wishlist a long while. Thank you yorkshire-lass.

I've no memory of watching the films so don't know how the book compares, but I'd hoped for better I confess. It was an alright story, and certainly had some interesting ideas (including Bastion's journey from reader to participant), but it just didn't grab me. I skim-read some chunks as they seemed long-winded. It may just be that styles of writing for children have changed over time.
