Margaret Drabble is a formidable writer! Her language is marvelous and a true reading enjoyment. With her attention to detail in big and small, of the inner landscape and the outer, she catches the zeitgeist of her society as well as create a homage to friendship.

It's so enjoyable to read Drabble's text <3 This book was very unique. There was the story of Jess and her daughter and her friends and then there was so many things how the world around us changes.

This was a good description:
"Jess has missed this bit of gossip, or has forgotten that she ever knew it. (This kind of forgetfulness recurs increasingly, as we grow older; surprises cease to surprise us, or surprise us twice or thrice over, as our memory confuses and entangles events and disclosures, as déjà vu merges with memory loss. I think I may have made this point before.)" (p. 193-194)

I participate with this book in Ukraina-challenge in the Finnish bc-forum , because friendship is in big part in this book. <3Ukraina
