This story alternates between two women’s point of view, Lavinia and Belle. Lavinia, is an Irish immigrant orphan who is raised by the tobacco plantation slaves. Belle, is a slave who is the plantation owner’s illegitimate daughter. Lavinia becomes torn between the black slaves who raised her and the plantation owners, who share her white skin color. This was a worthwhile read.
