I don't quite know what to make of this one. It has twists aplenty but that didn't necessarily make me a fan.
In a small town in Texas, Trumanell Branson disappears. Her brother Wyatt is suspected of having something to do with her disappearance and probable death, and as a result he lives a solitary existence as a trucker. When he finds, ten years later, a young woman in distress on the side of the highway, he takes it as some sort of sign. Maybe he can regain the trust of the community by helping this young woman.
However, Odette Tucker, young cop and former lover of Wyatt, believes the girl needs to be protected and hidden until more can be found out about her. As the girl has just one eye, she suspects there is someone out there looking for her who will perk up if he hears about a girl with one eye. She finds a place for the girl to stay and calls her "Angel" because the girl won't talk.
As Angel gradually learns to trust, Odette pursues answers. She believes there is some connection between the girl and the disappearance of Trumanell.
The story is told first in the words of Odette, and then by Angel. Complications arise that threaten both. Odette doesn't want to believe that Wyatt had anything to do with the disappearance. But is she wrong?
