A girl goes missing. Former cop Frank Rath tries not to get pulled in but ultimately can't let go. He has a daughter of similar age.

The detective team, headed by a less-skilled detective than Rath, discovers other similar abductions - if it is an abduction, but it is hard to find a similarity in the missing girls.

One girl turns up dead. The discovery leads to an interesting connection among the girls, and Rath is determined to track down every lead in the hope of finding the girls alive.

The plot is complicated so it's a merry ride. It's decently written and plotted. I had some gripes with minor things. One time Frank eats a cider donut. These donuts are famous in the northeast and available only seasonally. The description says he watched the woman cut out the donuts and slip them into the hot oil. Then he says he breathed in the yeasty scent as he bit into one. These donuts are not raised, though. No yeast.

Another thing I thought odd was when Frank had an MRI of his back. He says they shut the door of the machine. I may have misunderstood. He may have meant they shut the door of the room. Another part that bothered me- he was told, while in the machine. To turn on his side. Would that ever be done? Especially given the ear plugs? And given that mris take full slices?

I was bothered by these minor things because they seem to indicate that the author is not being careful or accurate. I may be off base here and happy to change this if I find out I'm wrong.
