There is a body in the library of Cuff College, Oxford, Alma Mater of the world's most famous fictional detectives. The only clues? The enormous spear sticking out of the victim's chest and the price tag from an IKEA duvet. The police are baffled. Tom Hurst, a junior lecturer at the College, breaking every rule of the whodunit genre, follows a trail of arcane clues that leads him to Botswana and Mma Delicious Ontoaste. His investigations then take him to Sweden and Burt Colander; to Edinburgh, where he is grudgingly helped by DI Scott "Just-Now" Rhombus; and to Richmond, Virginia, where he meets the brilliant, attractive-in-a-powerful-way, midnight-blue-pantsuited forensic pathologist Dr. Faye Carpaccia. Sometimes one supersleuth just isn't enough. The No.2 Global Detective, a parody, revisits and rewrites some of the most famous crime novels of recent times, taking the genre and its heroes to an ultimately hilarious extreme.

I was looking forward to a clever take on my favourite genre but instead found stupid and ridiculous insults of our renowned fictional heroes, even Sherlock

Whether or not you like the idea of a ruthless parody will probably dictate whether or not you get anything out of this book. Whilst there are some moments of inspired hilarity most of the time I just wished that the author would get on with it and cease trying to be just so clever. A silly, tongue in cheek narrative, that really did nothing for me.
