An historical fiction based on the life of Christina Olson and the farmstead she grew up in, the subjects of a Andrew Wyeth painting. This was an interesting and enjoyable read.

I found A Piece of the World a somewhat sad story. Christina was dealt a pretty tough hand from the start of life starting with an undiagnosed medical condition which impacted and eventually took her mobility to her father's insistence that she stay on the farm instead of furthering her education. To top it off, Christina's stubbornness and resistance to change kept her a prisoner to the family farm, with her brother, Al, the warden.

One day Andrew Wyeth turns up on the farm and sticks around for the entire summer. The farm, and Christina, are an inspiration, and for an artist inspiration is everything. His daily visits to the farm in the summer are a highlight for Christina and Al. And the result of Andrew's inspiration is the painting Christina's World.

This fictitious story, based on the real lives of Christina Olson and Andrew Wyeth is, itself, a work of art. A must read for anyone interested in American history (with a fictitious spin).
