I cannot decide if I am comforted or horrified by this book. It is comforting to think that humans behave as humans always have. But it is horrifying because we never seem to learn. There were many passages in this book that reminded me of Donald Trump and his antics. The doctor was clearly in it for the money and did not care about how many people he hurt. He did not care about legal troubles - loss of licenses, rescinding of degrees, lawsuits, etc. This is a fascinating story of how gullible people can be, and the fine line between science and quackery. And it's the story of the infancy of the American Medical Association and how it took on quackery. Good book!
